We spent a weekend in Arnhem. This is the bridge from the film, A Bridge Too Far. The Allies were unable to take the bridge from the Germans in September 1944, so Holland was not liberated for another eight months.

Arnhem's cathedral.

It was so cold, we had to check it out from inside this cafe.

It was Carnival weekend, and these girls were heading for the parade.

Even the bread in the bakery window got dressed up.

Goofy floats.

Goofy people.

It was fun...

...but we like it better in the countryside. These are heather-covered sand dunes.

Soaking up some sun.

We love this area.

And the critters.

This ditch was dug in 1553.

And this oak was planted the same year.

We have a thing for trees.

Here's Ronnie diggin' what's left of one of the 450-year-old trees.

This road is also from the same time period.

This crossroads has seen a lot history.
